“If we people become more helpful to others, there will be much less tragedy in the world!” — Mehmet Murat ildan

Compassion

Definition: sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others.
Synonyms: pity, sympathy, empathy, fellow feeling, care, concern, solicitude, sensitivity, warmth, love, tenderness, mercy, leniency, tolerance, kindness, humanity, charity
Ex: “have you no compassion for a fellow human being?”

Unconditional

Definition: not subject to any conditions.
Synonyms: wholehearted, unqualified, unreserved, unlimited, unrestricted, unmitigated, unquestioning; complete, total, entire, full, absolute, out-and-out, unequivocal
Ex: “they gave their new brother a warm, unconditional welcome”

Therefore, “Unconditional Compassion” is the act of being sympathetic to others’ sufferings without any conditions. In other words, as humans we should simply care for each other by peeling away all prejudiced, preconceived ideas and past impressions… without exception.

Sit back and imagine a world where this was the norm — seriously I challenge you. Where everyday, every interaction and every experience was met with understanding, assurance and kindness. Imagine you woke up one day, walking through this strange place and all you saw were people embracing each other with love and empathetic listening not objection and emotional blindness.

It’s hard to imagine but it’s worth it. Not because it’s fun to float the idea through our brains but because it truly would be beautiful.

Love would flourish, peace would spread and as people we would be much more fulfilled. Human connection partnered with unconditional acceptance and the willingness to listen are fundamental to building meaningful, unbreakable relationships.

For the next 24 hours, try to act with unconditional compassion. Simply hear what people are saying and listen to how they feel. The most subtle utterance of an unhappy relationship could go far deeper than you realize and all that person wants is for you to listen to them.

We owe it to each other to accept our differences, our choices and our flaws…. without exception, unconditionally.
