The Future of Cliff Diving
Post-education should entail action: you’ve learned about the athletes, the sport, and the culture. Now what? The men of USA Cliff Diving have worked incredibly hard to create the lifestyle they enjoy on a daily basis, but where do they and the sport they love go from here, and how can someone like you or I help?
The vision for USA Cliff Diving has always revolved around a set of goals determined by David Colturi, Andy Jones, Steven Lobue, and Kyle Mitrione. That vision is clear: Help cliff diving reach it’s greatest potential.
Since the sports beginnings, the boundaries of Cliff Diving have continuously been pushed to new heights (quite literally), as the number of athletes and supporters grow, due in large part to Red Bull and the formation of the Cliff Diving World Series, now in its 8th season. Between more opportunities for competition, to the new levels of progression in diving technique, the transformation of this sport over the past few years has been astronomical.
One of the biggest drivers to continue growing this sport or any niche endeavor for that matter, is increasing the level of exposure the general public has to it (so if you’ve been reading along over the past few weeks, you’re already ahead of the gang). Through online reach and dynamic content, televised events in an expanding list of incredible locations all over the world, and an enthusiastic fan base, the future of Cliff Diving looks bright as the divers hope to introduce the sport they love to the world. But aside from competition, the guys of USA Cliff Diving also would like to engage the next generation of potential divers by hosting clinics or camps to aid and appeal to those interested in diving or simply finding a new passion.
“We want to be a resource for divers, coaches, and anyone else that is involved in the sport.” — Kyle Mitrione
Currently, the fellas are competing around the world, with the tour already having stopped in: Texas, United States; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal. We know you may not be able to take some summer-leave to chase these men around the world, but aside from watching them on live streams or TV, there’s another way in which you can directly support them. From now through the end of July, 10% of your purchase of any item from our shop goes directly to the USA Cliff Diving Team, helping them continue to do what they love and bring the sport of cliff diving into the mainstream.
This is the last part of our series with the USA Cliff Diving Team, so make sure to follow them on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to keep up with their season, their travels and the development of this amazing sport!
