The Swaziland Liberation Movement has broken rank and admitted that government was correct to arrest and put in prison Members of Parliament Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube.

Mduduzi Gawuzela Simelane, who is president of SWALIMO, managed to evade arrest by running into exile and lawfully lost his status as an MP because of absenteeism without explanation.

SWALIMO KwaZulu-Natal leader and member of the party’s national executive Sydney Maseko has come out to concede that it was these MPs who were responsible for causing the unrest that began in 2021.

The unrest resulted in the loss of lives and the destruction of properties all over the country.

According to Sydney, “there was an unrest that was caused by the MPs”.

He said the unrest by the MPs was then hijacked by the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO), which staged a failed coup de tat, where PUDEMO President Mlungisi falsely claimed that they were now firmly in charge of the country.

This was after PUDEMO member and former police officer Sabelo ‘Meadowlands’ Simelane revealed a failed attempt to invade the EBIS national radio station to announce a new government at the height of the unrest.

The PUDEMO member blames SWALIMO’s Gawuzela for disturbing their plans by calling Deputy Prime Minister and tipping him off that there were “foreigners” who had entered Eswatini to take over the country.

To this, Sydney said “Therefore since it is illegal to stage a failed coup, the MPs are correctly imprisoned”.

Sydney has accused PUDEMO of going on to use the jailed MPs situation to get money from donors.

He said PUDEMO did the same thing previously when they solicited donor funding by using the case of senior journalist Bheki Makhubu and human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko who had been jailed for scandalising the judiciary.

Following the latest revelation and admission, Sydney has given the Eswatini authorities his approval to crack down on people and groups that attempt to stage coup de tat and political unrest.
