Thou Shall Hug A Tory, Apparently

In the latest case of Conservatives being overly sensitive little buttercups, is the notion that maybe some people like Laura Pidcock MP just don’t want to best buddies with some human rights abusing incompetent shitstains. If you really had standards, and many MPs don’t, you wouldn’t touch them, not even if they offered to pay you. Just no.

This doesn’t mean you can’t be professional and bite your tongue to get on with the day job even if it makes you cringe almost to death. (Been there.) It doesn’t mean you must be obliged to have drinks with them, go on picnics with them and exchange Christmas pressies with them. But there’s this curious notion from all political sides at and around Westminster that MPs from different parties should hold hands and skip merrily around Hyde Park with each other. To nearly every rational Working Class observer, we look at those declarations of outrage and think: U wot M8??? And well, Westminster parties being too buddy-bud with each other like it’s all just one hilarious game, is the major issue to why Westminster is alienating and excluding of the non-wealthy.

The basic idea that if you’re a Labour, Green or say SNP MP, that you must make friends with Tories means that if this no problem to you, you come from a financially privileged background and you’ve never experienced the negative consequences of the (a) Tory regime. Nor do you particularly care about the abuses it inflicts on people. You may believe say, disabled people deserve more respect and rights but it is superfluous to you, it doesn’t affect you, you don’t see people suffer and you probably don’t believe the system is actually as bad as what its victims suggest, you are comfortable and don’t feel motivated to rock the boat.

What you are is that kid standing on the side lines watching another kid being beaten up by the school bully. You are friends with the school bully because the bully has power, because it is easier to go with the flow than to make a righteous stand that may or may not cost you. You don’t want to make that gamble because you aren’t the one getting hurt and school life is going smooth for you, why upset things when you’re on top. As for the bullied kid, you too shun them, they are invisible to you or if the guilt starts to nag a bit you tell yourself they probably deserved it a bit. Sometimes though maybe you, yourself hurt the bullied kid because it increases your standing with the socially popular bully. This is more or less the relationship of Political Parties and the Media towards the poor of Britain.

Let’s say tomorrow a random batch of underprivileged people suddenly became MPs.

We have Linda who used to care for her severely disabled husband Robert. Robert was found fit for work by the Work Capability Assessment Provider, and took his own life from the stress of it all. Do you think Linda would want to hug a Tory?

There is Tom, Tom had been trapped in the quagmire of the Job Centre, a particularly vicious advisor had been harassing him for months, getting him to do demeaning soul destroying “tasks”. Tom received a 6 month sanction because on his sign in day, his mother fell down the stairs and he was the only one around to call 999. Do you think Tom wants to hug a Tory?

Kim was happy and satisfied in her job as a Retail Assistant, there she met Brad who was a dashing Graduate looking for his big break. Kim and Brad planned to get married. Unfortunately Brad was an American, the Home Office decided he (and her) wasn’t earning enough, despite him neither entitled nor ever attempting to claim a penny in “benefits” and so Brad was deported. Do you think Kim wants to hug a Tory?

If Tory hugging is a prerequisite for Linda, Tom and Kim to go far and survive in Westminster, then that means as Working Class people who’ve had their lives wreaked by the Tories, they again fall into another trap set up by our elites to ensure that the underprivileged cannot out succeed them nor truly oppose them. They must lose their dignity to navigate the system and in doing so destroys the spark of change they could bring. If change cannot be brought within the system, then Linda, Tom and Kim may as well make the slate clean…
