Measuring your interests by involvement

Level 1 — Basic Interest

A basic interest is something that we tend to have a lot more of. Typically, this is what you are “interested” in but that’s about as far as it goes. Subjects that are basic interests are investigated on the surface level and no deeper.

level 2 — Hobby

A hobby is an interest that we like enough that we get involved in it. With Hobbies, we tend to get into the nitty gritty of the subject learning things about it on the side. Someone’s hobby is generally a personal interest and does not go outside of this. For Example, a person who likes working on cars, but only their own.

Level 3 — Passion

A Passion takes the characteristics of a hobby and takes them a step further. General characteristics involve high commitment or even obsession with the subject. Passions are generally investigated at the deepest levels possible, rivaling professionals in the subject field. Passions can sometimes lead to professions in that subject field.
