VR FACE is a common side effect…

Well, unfortunately we think it’s a bust. The honeymoon period for virtual reality could be coming to a close. Major companies involved haven’t released official sales numbers yet but it doesn’t look good according to usage data.

If you want to get your hands on a VR headset you have a few options. The higher performer HTC Vive will run you $799. This doesn’t include shipping or the PC you will be running it on. The budget option for VR is the Samsung GEAR. This is a stand-alone headset that attaches to Samsung smartphones. The Oculus Rift will cost you $599 and again you still need a powerful computer to use these headsets. Is the price too high?

HTC Vive $799.

The majority of these sets are priced too high and they have to be. This excludes the $99 Samsung Gear VR, but you still need a Samsung Galaxy phone. It’s great if you already have one and not so great dishing out another $300–$400.

The HTC has supposedly secured over 100,000 units sold. Which isn’t so hot considering Xbox and PS4 sold over 1 million units in a 24 hour period. According to SteamSpy , Tilt brush is the most popular of the bundled games from the Vive. This is where we get a rough estimate of how many have been sold since launch.

Founder, Oculus VR.
