Using the Snipping tool
Hello, in today’s Library Ladder we are going to be looking at using something called the Snipping Tool.

You might use the Snipping tool if you want to extract, annotate and email a screen shot of document or page to a colleague or student.
So first go to the Windows tab on the bottom left of the screen in the search field type ‘Snipping Tool’.
Select Snipping Tool listed under programs.
We can also access the tool in the accessories folder, by going to ‘All Programs’ -> ‘Accessories’.
A small window will then appear for the Snipping Tool, with New automatically selected. Everything is set up to start.
You will then be able to select a rectangle snip of the page that you are on by holding the left click of your mouse and dragging the red outline to whatever size you wish.
There are options to edit your selected snip.
We can annotate using these options in a few different ways.
There are a variety of pen colours and you can also customize the size or the colour of the pen by clicking customize.
Let’s choose the red pen.
We can draw on the snip by holding the left click of the mouse and dragging across the page.
We can also:
highlight, erase, and use any of the different coloured pens all in one snip.
If we click on the mail icon on the toolbar we can send our snipped and annotated screen shot in an email, it is automatically synced to our Outlook account.
We can also save the snip by clicking on the Disk image on the tool bar.
So let’s email our snip.
An email is automatically activated in Outlook.
We can then add a recipient to the email and write a message as we would do a normal email.
We’ve successfully received the snipped information in an email!
Reasons for using Snipping Tool:
· its more versatile than taking a standard screen shot
· it’s simple to do
· you can annotate with ease
· you can quickly email the snipped, annotated information through Outlook
