It’s Safe to Say.

The holiday season is an absolute mess, and this does not exclude cooking.

I’ve made more cookies than I ever have before, My biceps have never rolled out more dough. That is saying quite a bit when you lift a few times a week. Haha, anyway, welcome back to the Little Chef blog! Thanks for stopping by.

Lets get down to business.

As the holidays come to an end, I have time to sit and reflect on all I have encountered, accomplished, and discovered in these short few weeks before the new year. I’m very happy to share it all with you today.
Michael and I finally took a journey through the Italian Market, THE REAL ONE, not just Di Bruno's, not that Di Bruno’s isn’t a fantastic wonderland of awe and cheese, because it is. The Italian Market has it’s own Di Bruno’s and it’s just as good as the others in the city. What I was seeing on my walk to work was a simple corner off Christian St, and it was just the tip of the iceberg. As you just start to walk down South 9th Street it hits you, those wafting smells of cured meats, coffee, cheese, and fresh vegetables. After the smell, my eyes looked up and I’m sure I’ve never seen anything more satisfying in a crowd of people. There is no doubt it’s a little run down, but you can still see the shine of it under all of the years it’s been there. The look on the vendors faces as they hang out and offer the fresh caught red snapper from the morning haul is like something out of a movie. This all being said I will definitely have to take the camera out, because I think this is an experience you all should know. It’s the part of Philadelphia that would make any home cook feel like a chef, and feel at home.

With all of that excitement Michael and I have been discussing traveling, I think it will be a great way for me to learn new things and learn how to better share my experiences to grow as a person and a cook. Thinking on how the Italian Market made me feel all fuzzy with love inside made me realize the heart of the city is really in the food community and I can learn a lot there, I think next weekend we are going to venture into China Town.

I’ve also been learning so much!

Jet Tila recently started putting out a live video on Facebook that he calls his “7 Minute Kitchen Clinic” every Friday, about 3pm EST. Last week he made rice noodles, it’s a definite must try I know I will be trying my hand at it! Facebook is an interesting source of information, it’s a great connection to the food loving community and the perfect way to keep up with all of my Food Network favorites behind the scenes. Unscripted, raw talent, it’s a beautiful thing. Especially with the inspirational holiday posts, my personal Facebook page has suffered from the inflated amount of “saved” articles. Some of my favorites right now are ChefSteps, they are a friendly bunch, Alex Guarnaschelli’s quirky lovable attitude is always welcome, and Alton Brown’s advice on anything Amazon is a joy for those of you who follow Cutthroat Kitchen, or just Alton as a person. He’s a hoot lately with his online presence.

Well my little cooking community I’m back to the grind, but thanks for stopping by, I’ll be back this weekend with more adventures I promise!

Stay Tuned…
