How I Tricked Myself Into Meditating

I just don’t know what meditation is. If I sat with my eyes closed trying to find a few quiet moments I’m convinced that would just result in sleep. There are people who say we should meditate after we wake as part of a morning routine. Again, I think I’d just fall back to sleep. Is there a good guide to successful meditation out there?
