YUGIOH ALTERGEIST TIPS AND DECK PROFILE
Before I get started, I just wanted to let you guys know that I do have a YouTube channel. Go ahead and Subscribe to me at Daniels316Gaming, which also happens to be my Discord channel.
As most of you already are aware of, Link Summoning has yet to make its way to Yugioh Devpro. However, Circuit Break, the booster box that will be released in further down the line, and the Yugioh Vrains anime have brought to us Altergeists, a brand new Trap-oriented deck with a variety of different strategies at its disposal. On Devpro, as of the moment this post is made, you can try out the Altergeists, but you won’t be able to Link Summon Prime Banshee, the archetype’s apparent Boss Monster.
For a while now, I’ve been working with this deck as much as I possibly can in anticipation of its eventual release in the TCG. Of course, with very few monsters and about two traps(although Personal Spoofing is technically an Altergeist Trap card, it doesn’t have “Altergeist” in the name so it doesn’t count, according to Konami) to work with, you can understand that this was obviously nothing easy to work with. However, after adding in cards like the Magician Girls(Chocolate, Apple, and Berry), Inari Fire(Special Summons itself when you control a Spellcaster and loops returning itself from the graveyard when destroyed by a card effect), Wonder Wand and One-Shot Wand for draw power, I found that this deck could run just as well, if not better without an Extra Deck than with one.
Chocolate Magician Girl is most definitely the key part to this deck. After you Normal Summon her, discard an Altergeist to the GY to retrieve later and redirect the attack to them after your opponent attacks Chocolate Magician Girl. Monsters like Altergeist Kunitieri with large DEF are often great to Special Summon back with this effect not only because of that, but also because Kunitieri being Special Summoned from the Graveyard triggers its effect to target a face-up CARD your opponent controls and negates it effect as long as it’s on the field. You could also Special Summon Altergeist Meluseek in Defense position to ensure it goes back to GY, which then gives you a search for another Altergeist monster to add to your hand, which normally you would either search Kunitieri or another Meluseek just in case you want to either Special Summon back later or Special Summon to negate an attack(provided you have an Altergeist card on the field) with Kunitieri OR you want to out a card on your opponent’s field with Meluseek. Finally, as long as you have Spellcaster monsters in your GY, your opponent has no hope in outing it by battle, so they’ll end up using some of their resources, hopefully long enough for you to either draw into another one or Special Summon one using Magician’s Circle(When a Spellcaster-Type monster declares an attack: Each player Special Summoms 1 Spellcaster-type monster with 2000 or less ATK from their Deck in Attack Position), Berry Magician Girl(Special Summons a Magician Girl from your Deck) when targeted with an attack or effect) or Magical Undertaker(Special Summons a Level 4 or lower Spellcaster from your Graveyard when flipped face-up). On top of all of this, Chocolate Magician halves the current attack of your opponent’s monster when you Special Summon a Spellcaster from the GY.
A lot of the Spells and Traps you’ll be using will be mostly for draw power or to prevent your opponent from outing your monsters. Along with the three Altergeist-exclusive Trap cards, I use cards like Magician’s Left Hand(it negates the first Trap Card or effect that resolves on your opponent’s field each turn while you control a Spellcaster monster) and Star Pendulumgraph(to prevent the opponent from targeting your Spellcaster monsters with Spell Cards or effects). You can search out your Magician’s Left Hand(and also Magician’s Right Hand if you run it) with Magician’s Encore, when it’s sent to the Graveyard. Wonder Wand and One-Shot Wand are usually used to draw extra cards and can potentially be a game changer if you manage to draw into Kunitieri while you control an Altergeist card before the end of your turn OR if you draw into Blizzard Princess while you control a disposable Spellcaster seeing as how your opponent won’t be able to stop your attacks with their Spells or Traps during the turn this card is Normal Summoned.
If you draw into all the right resources, you don’t ever really need to go into the Extra Deck all that often. Though, it may be best to run cards that out threats such as Castel, Silent Honor Ark, and Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon.
The only thing that I can say negatively about this deck is that it will ultimately CRUMBLE if you put it up against Aleister the Invoker decks with that one Fusion Monster that can negate essentially anything as long as you send a card of the same type from the opponent’s hand to GY. They usually fuse and then add Aleister the Invoker and the fusion card back to the hand, and you obviously don’t know if they may have a Trap in hand. But if you’re lucky, you’ll have Altergeist Protocol on the field with another face-up Altergeist card.
