8 September 2018 — Passions and Prejudices

So what are you passionate about? Music? Dancing? Stamp Collecting? Gardening? Children? Animals? etc etc

And what are you prejudiced against? People who drop litter? Cyclists on the pavement? Drivers who don’t give way? People who walk in lines of three and four and expect you, a single pedestrian to negotiate around them? People who don’t clear up after their dogs? Parents who don’t seem to be able to control their children unless they are screaming at them? People who argue loudly in public?

Obviously these are the circumstances which drive me wild and the incidents in which I’m in danger of losing the Point of Power in the Moment if I allow the rational mind to run away with me and grumble!

It is interesting to note that some things which both enthuse and annoy me do not enthuse or annoy others. Other people I know are very tolerant towards my pet hates and not particularly enthusiastic about my passions.

So where do our Passions and Prejudices emanate from? Our upbringing? Our conditioning? Our parents? Our friends? Our Past Lives? AND how important are they to us in order that we feel secure in who we are and feel confident in saying ‘well, that’s just me — that’s the way I am?’.

I would suggest that our PASSIONS emanate from our hearts from the joy certain pursuits gave us as a child in this life and that our prejudices are learnt from our socialisation — from our parents, teachers and friends. However one of my many beliefs is that we do come into this world as ‘blank sheets’ but that our experiences from past lives have in some way ‘programmed’ us to like certain things and dislike others and has provided us with a ready made BELIEF system. And as I have mentioned in other blogs what we think and what we believe creates our reality.

The next issue of course is are we able to change? Would we be happier if we let go of our prejudices and became more TOLERANT and ACCEPTING OF OTHERS and of ourselves. And would we become more expansive and experience more joy were we to find new passions?

PONDER POINTS:The things I have been tempted to try but have never quite had the courage are …… I would list my beliefs as ….. I feel I might feel a little bit more at peace with myself if ….the habit patterns and belief systems which I feel I inherited from my childhood are ….The ways in which I feel I might find it advantageous to change are … I feel The Point of Power is Mine when …
