Flavor of the month

Something Clever here.

People often complain to me about being the “flavor of the month”. They say to me, “I don’t want to be his/her flavor of the month”. And that’s respectable. To a certain degree.

I then wonder if people know what the flavor of the month is meant to do. I know when I used to work at a store that had a flavor of the month type promotion, it wasn’t because that flavor wasn’t special, but it was to make that flavor special.

How many times do you try something new? Probably not often enough. I remember the first time I had sushi. I thought I hated sushi. Then tried it. I found out that I quite love it. The reason I tried it was because my friend had offered to buy my dinner if she was allowed to choose what it was. It was either spend $30 on a terriyaki chicken bowl, or try something new.

The flavor of the month is usually cheaper, or you get double the amount for the price of one. Or you could win prizes by choosing it. There is usually something special attached to the flavor of the month.

When it comes to relationships, the flavor of the month just so happens to be the person your with. However, some people are able to find a new temporary favorite in this flavor of the month. Some people will date for months, and eventually realize that they liked chocolate all along, and they’ve been dating pistacio.

Here’s how you avoid being Just the flavor of the month…

  1. Don’t be boring. Be willing to try new things with this new person.Be willing to adapt and change a little. But don’t comepletely change your life to when it doesn’t work out, you’re stuck and heart broken.
  2. Show that person something new. Don’t let your significant other decided when, where, and for how long you are going to be going out here. Make sure you step up and make some plans.
  3. Don’t put out. Make them work for the prize. Hardly any sports team or athlete shows up to compete only to be handed the championship.

Again, being the flavor of the month isn’t a terrible thing by nature. We make it a terrible thing by not letting the cards play out on its own. We make ourselves miserable while being in the early stages of relationships because we want to stay with said person. At the end of the day, you really decide how long you’re the flavor of the month for.
