The Scene subculture was popular and somewhat mainstream among teenagers in the mid-2000s. Scene fashion has to be the most iconic thing about this subculture. From skinny jeans to bright colors, and to uniquely dyed hair, scene kids have always been full of swag.
Sadly, scene culture began to decline in popularity in the late 2010s. That was until the movement saw a revival in 2019. The movement of the “Rawring 20s” made its rounds on TikTok and Instagram.
With the subculture’s newfound popularity among teenagers on social media, some teens would begin to adopt elements of scene fashion into their wardrobes. Today, we will be going over the stables of a Scene kid’s wardrobe.
Shirts
A big staple in scene fashion is t-shirts. All kinds of t-shirts can work (like cartoon shirts, band shirts, etc.). Cartoon t-shirts are arguably the most common shirts worn by scene kids. There are not many restrictions on t-shirts because they can easily be stylized into scene fashion.
When you incorporate shirts into your scene outfits, make sure that you include colors. An outfit with mainly black and no color will get you mistaken for an emo.
Skinny Jeans
Skinny jeans are a must-have for any scene kid. If you look up scene fashion, the majority of the scene kids are wearing some kind of skinny jeans. Although the most common colors for skinny jeans are black and blue, they can work in almost any color.
If you are more feminine presenting, you can wear a brightly colored tutu over your jeans or tights. It may look dated, but you will look like an OG scene kid from the 2000s.
Converse
Converse is also a must-have for any scene kid. Any type of Converse can work. However, the most iconic type is knee-high Converse. They may be iconic, but they are a little harder to come across nowadays.
When it comes to scene fashion, Converse is not the only pair of shoes you can wear. Flats and Vans can also work. Nothing is stopping you from wearing sneakers, but they come across as preppy.
Accessories
Accessories are essential in scene fashion. Piercings are always welcome in scene culture and so is dyed hair. If there’s one thing about scene kid accessories, they must be clunky.
The most common accessory is Kandi jewelry. The best part about Kandi is that you can easily make your own if you have the supplies for it. You can find useful Kandi-making tutorials on YouTube and TikTok.
Belts are another accessory common in scene fashion. These belts tend to be large, chunky, and shiny. They tend to come in all sorts of colors too. The power of accessorizing can change a scene kid’s life for the better.
