The 5 Retro Minor League Baseball Hats That You Probably Need To Have

With these latest releases, there’s really no way to go wrong.

Minor League Baseball hats in general have become extremely popular over the last few years, with the perfect example being a purchase I made last summer thanks to the existence of this tremendous Taco hat from the Fresno Grizzlies.

It’s a great color scheme that marries perfectly with the giant taco logo, making it physically impossible not to buy.

Anyway, MiLB released some amazing retro hats this week and — while an extremely difficult task to take on — I’ve gone ahead plucked out the Top 5 from the batch that I consider to be “must have” hats.

In no particular order…

The Wichita Wranglers

The only way this hat could possibly invoke more fear is to add a cigarette. But it’s 2018 and we can’t have that. Smoking is bad.

It also has a versatile quality to it being that it’s black and can be worn with just about anything, including cowboy boots and a fake mustache.

The Memphis Chicks

via Lids

First off, it’s a hat representing a team known as the Memphis Chicks to go along with a color scheme that has a throwback Braves feel to it. Not to mention a healthy splash of Expos.

Which is to say, it’s sublime. Because any time a hat conveys even just a touch of an Expos vibe, it’s hard to fail.

The Miami Sun Sox

The logo does all the necessary driving here. At first glance, it could easily be mistaken for the sign of a seedy 1980s motel. And that, by no means, is a bad thing.

This one might be my favorite just for it’s pure, unapologetic in-your-face quality.

The Las Vegas Stars

I’m here for the hair, the shades, the sideburns, and what appears to be a dog’s snout.

Very Vegas. Very outstanding.

The Charleston Charlies

via Lids

Apparently I spoke way too soon by say smoking was bad, because what we have here is a smiling baseball wearing a derby hat and smoking a cigar.

Consider me an instant, adoring fan of the Charleston Charlies even though they don’t exist anymore.

However, the hat does and calling it a genius work of art would probably be an understatement.

Honorable Mention

via Lids

This is just a great logo for the Madison Hatters. Although I must say, once my eyes discovered the presence of the excessive tail, it kinda changed everything.

Finally — and sadly — I just couldn’t bring myself to support the Cape Fear Crocs hat and that’s primarily because of Crocs, the shoe company.

Very unfair! Though it really is quite a delight:

The entire set of new MiLB retros can be found right here at Lids.

Enjoy the enjoyment.
