The Nets’ Notorious B.I.G. Collection Is Probably The Best Thing This Franchise Has Ever Done

Biggie Smalls x NBA apparel would be pretty hard to screw up, even for the Nets.

On Thursday afternoon, both Fanatics and FansEdge — major sports apparel companies under the same umbrella — heroically announced the release of the “NBA Music Collection,” kicking things off in proper form with Biggie Smalls-related merch’ for the Brooklyn Nets.

Of the six items launched, the true no-brainer of the batch is the following t-shirt of the Nets logo featuring accents of Biggie’s COOGI sweater and an awesome nod to the iconic crown photo.

Yes, iconic without a doubt and well worth the price of $34.99 + free shipping.

Then there’s the t-shirt jersey which also feels like a no-brainer. Simply put, anything with “BIGGIE” etched above the number on the back of a shirsey is bound to be a winner.

In this case, it’s №72 to acknowledge the year the world was gifted with the Notorious B.I.G. The only issue is the placement of the Nike logo, which belongs on the sleeve and out of the way.

Nonetheless, you’d seriously have to try extremely hard to botch such a concept.

If you feel like splurging, you can take things up a notch and go the true jersey route for $174.99.

The presence of the “Spread Love The Brooklyn Way” patch at the bottom makes this one extra tempting. Plus, it’s absolutely timeless, as you could wear this thing to any sporting event on the planet and every single person would love it.

Finally, we have ourselves a long sleeve “Notorious 72-themed” shirt.

It’s fine, I guess, but the one adjustment I’d make to push this puppy to the top of the mountain is change the shirt color from white to black while keeping “NOTORIOUS” in knockout white.

In addition to the aforementioned items, there’s a couple other shirts — here and here — that feel just a little too plain, but whatever. To each his own.

The crucial question is, where’s the apparel for the other teams? Since it’s officially being advertised as the “NBA Music Collection,” I can only assume (and hope) more amazing shit is on the way. Particularly for teams like the Atlanta Hawks, where the endless pool of hip hop artists to feature would pretty much be a layup no matter which way they go.

And then there’s the Golden State (Oakland) Warriors. If Fanatics ends up making a “Tupac x Warriors” anything — please, please do thisI’ll gleefully be shouting TAKE MY MONEY from rooftop to rooftop.
