I am also a southerner that grew up with those same things being taught and passed down. I too knew no one that was in the KKK. The south grew to hate northerners even after the civil war ended. The north used a scorched earth method on the south after the war and really drove home the South’s hatred for the people that stole their livelihood. The South needs to understand that they can’t preach about being a patriot and loving the USA while at the same time flying a confederate flag. Those statue’s belong in a museum, not in our parks. History isn’t biased and neither should we be when talking about it. But we can choose what events in history we glorify.
