Recently, I emailed a data broker to tell them I was a Domestic Violence and Stalking Victim.

There's a whole process to removing my information.

My Incomplete (but Significant) Help for You:

I say incomplete, because, I don’t want you to think I have all your (or my), bases covered for our safety.

-That said, I have Quite A Few!

There are many articles on this (I include some of mine and others too), on what information data brokers collect, how they collect it and how to remove it (for free or paid).

  • A private eye can help you too, but, first start out with what’s here and your own research, as private eyes cost alot of money.

Basically, you want to enter your name, number and anything else that identifies you, as little as possible.

I will have later, and article on how to use an LLC, to hide your information legally, buy a car, have a bank. This helps too.

Also, you can sign up to a data broker, and see what information they have on yo, and remove it too (both the options on the screen), and, by contacting them.

I can get you a good start and help you quite a bit!

First, Lets Get You SAFER..

If You need a Near Complete Guide on removing your data from online, here is one I will be using too:

(I copy and pasted some of it below)

This is the third step of a four-step process to request, freeze, and remove your personal information from within data broker, credit reporting, and password exposure services.

1: Data Request Guide
2: Credit Freeze Guide
3: Data Removal Guide
4: Credential Exposure Removal Guide

The online removal process of your personal information, such as a home address or telephone number, is usually quite easy. Most services will offer you a website to request they remove your details. These direct links are often hidden within fine print or rarely visited pages. My goal in this guide is to take the research out of the removal process and simply tell you where to start. Instead of explaining each step of the process for every service, I decided to compress this information throughout this tutorial. Each removal summary will display the service, website, removal link, contact options, and any notes about the removal process.”

“The “MOST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK” removals:
Spokeo, Mylife, Radaris, Whitepages, Intelius, BeenVerified, Acxiom, Infotracer, Lexis Nexis, TruePeopleSearch”

The author offers how to remove your information and maintain your privacy too for credit bureau’s and so forth.

Public Sources: Where and How:

(note to myself-later include links to some that solve the problem of article I wrote)

-Anything that comes up when you google your name (such as google-yelp reviews) and..

Partial List:

Local County Courthouses

Census Bureaus
(When you move to a knew state, opt out as much as possible of anything for this, voting referendums and so forth)

Bank Account
(open your bank account in a different state you’ll be living)

Cell Phone
(and likely cable records)

Mail-OrdertoYourHome
(Think about what you might get shipped to your home: a book, a gift for someone, magazines, meal planning food..and so much more.)

-My guess is, that will potentially later be obtained by data brokers.

Any and All Social Media and Online Accounts
(Blogs, photo based sites like flicker, Pinterest, LinkedIn)

Your Email:
(Emails will come up, my guess is through your internet service provider, things you sign up for at Grocery stores)

Assets
(Home, Vacation Home, Car, Apartment: Think credit checks, loans, tax registered address)

Shopping Habits
(Stop signing up for things, unless you use a very different nick name [provided it’s legal], non identifiable email)

Political Views
(Signing up to Vote, I think will eventually reveal your location too)

P.O. Box
(I was told by someone that worked there, its not private.
Maybe if you use an LLC? I’ll have to look into that)

Some Ways they Collect it:

I will provide articles I wrote below, on how to help you with this, so, you don’t lose your mind!

Online Games and Quizes
-“By avoiding posting personal information on social media and steering clear of online quizzes and sweepstakes, you can reduce the information data brokers can collect.”

Social Media Accounts
-“Delete unused applications and accounts:
To reduce the number of places a data broker may be accessing your information, be sure to delete any unused applications or accounts, as it can help remove your personal information from the internet.”

Credit Cards and Department Stores
-“Commercial sources:
Brokers may collect or purchase data from credit card providers and retailers...money you owe on your department store credit card..coupons you tend to use, and the items you’ve purchased after swiping a store’s loyalty card.”

Likes and Comments
-“posts you’ve made or “liked” online, online quizzes you’ve taken, online sweepstakes you’ve entered, and the websites you’ve visited.”

Applications, Customer Programs
“Other areas you’ve agreed to share data:
When signing up for a new account, application, or customer program, you might be agreeing to share your personal data without even realizing it.”

Web Browser Cookies
(
VPN’s and other privacy-web browser tools [check articles below], looking at and adjusting your settings, can help with this)
