“Correcting the Record”, An Attack on Free Speech
Today, Hillary Clinton supporters and one of her SuperPACs, Correct the Record, shut down Facebook groups with thousands of Bernie Sanders supporters. Today, we can see the impact of what a Hillary Clinton presidency will look like. And it looks like this:
We cannot have a politician whose supporters and own SuperPAC blocks political speech. The right to free speech transcends political boundaries, it is a right afforded to every person in this country. A politician whose supporters and perhaps herself that is complicit in blocking the political free speech of any candidate’s supporters simply does not deserve anybody’s vote.
This comes just off as one of Hillary Clinton’s SuperPACs, Correct the Record, is running a multi-million dollar campaign to attack anybody who disagrees with her online. Leading this effort is David Brock, described by The Nation as a “conservative journalistic assassin turned progressive empire-builder”, and by Politico as a “former right-wing journalist-turned-pro-Clinton crusader.” Already, nearly $1 million dollars have been spent on “internet trolls” to attack, harass, and intimidate those who disagree with Mrs. Clinton, a strategy not unseen in countries with restrictive governments.
The Chinese government actively uses paid political trolls to drown out dissidents from the Party. The North Korean government, according to The Telegraph, has a 3,000 man troll army to drown out negative speech about the North Koreans. While extreme examples, this is exactly what Mrs. Clinton’s SuperPACs and supporters are doing, and are quite open about what they are doing. What they are doing is the destruction of the American values of free speech by harassment and intimidation.
Let’s tell the truth about what these SuperPACs and supporters are doing. What they’re doing isn’t “Correcting the Record”. It’s pure political intimidation by skilled journalistic hawks with the express purpose of preventing political speech. It’s attempting to erase a record, not correct one. With Mrs. Clinton’s record as it is, you can bet that is exactly what they are doing.
We cannot have a president whose SuperPACs, and perhaps herself, attempts to limit free speech. This is not a quality we want in a leader who will be nominating people to serve in offices, to represent the American people in the Supreme Court, to serve this country internationally and domestically. This is not a quality we want in any leader, elected or nominated, and by doing this action Mrs. Clinton and her supporters have shown their character.
We cannot allow “Million Dollar Trolls” to determine the fate of the next four to eight years of our country. This is no longer a battle of Democrat and Republican, of Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. This is a fight for the intrinsic freedoms we are given as Americans.
I urge the voters in the upcoming primaries not to award attacks on free speech. I urge every voter not to vote for Mrs. Clinton.
