BEST TREK IN LOWER HIMACHAL

Treks like Triund, Prashar lake, Bijli Mahadev are getting too popular and as a result, they are getting ruined by litter and noise.

But deep down the Kareri lake trek is best among all of them. It is one of the less explored treks. Kareri Lake is a shallow freshwater lake fed by snow melting in Dhauladhar Ranges. The most beautiful part about this trek is that it is formed by water bodies and surrounded by mountains and alpine trees. Kareri Lake is present in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.

WAYS TO REACH KARERI

One is the Pathankot-Shahpur-Salli route if you are coming from Pathankot. After Pathankot, your next stop will be Shahpur (tehsil of Kangra) then take a local bus which is going to Salli village. It takes around 30 to 45 minutes to go there. After that, you have to take a private jeep or taxi up to the beginning of the trek. The jeep will take around ₹ 500. ( P.S There is no mobile signal at the beginning of the trek)

From there the trek is around 11 kilometres.

Another one is via Dharamshala-ghera-Kareri village route. You can firstly take a bus from Dharamshala to Ghera and then you can take jeep which is going to Kareri village. Or if you have enough money you can take a personal taxi from Dharamshala to kareri village which takes around ₹ 1500-2000. From Kareri village there are two ways to reach at the initial point of trek one is through the trail(2-3km) which is also short and another is via road. (3-4km). You can complete this distance easily by walk and leads to a bridge where the main trek begins.

This 11 kilometres trek takes average men 4 hours to complete it. From here you can talk to shopkeepers for taking camps with you or you can also take camps when you reach the lake but it takes extra charges. At the season time, there are around 4-5 shops open alongside the trek.

PRECAUTIONS YOU MUST TAKE

* There is no mobile signal from the beginning to the end of the trek(at only one point you will get the signal)

* Check the weather forecast before going to the trek.

* In the off-season there is also found bears and leopards as they come down the hills in search of food. But don't worry they will not be seen in the seasonal time.

* There is only one shop for liquor only at Ghera village. (P.S I am not promoting for liquor)
