Day 7

Tuesday.

BIG day. We knew we would stay late to structure the whole piece and so we spent the day solidifying narratives we know we want but also developing new ones.

One of the new ones was that of a heterosexual couple figuring out that they are ready to take the plunge and finally lose their ‘big v’s’ to each other. Except we split so that two couples would work the same narrative. We won’t name any names but making that kind of scene, where two people are in a relationship and very much in love, you encounter the same problems as you do in real life.

Two words: Sexual. Chemistry. You just don’t have it with some people and that’s ok. It makes for hilarious viewing when it’s attempted.

Sexual chemistry is a funny thing. You can have so much in common with someone but when it comes to a beautiful, tangible connection leading to a physical relationship, it has the potential to be catastrophically awkward. Of course much of our work plays on silly awkwardness, but this feels different. There seems to be a need to cut away any fluff, and be very truthful to the human moments playing out in front of us.

The structuring went on well into the night, as we always find late night planning can be very helpful. You go through the first 8 or 9 hours of the day and reach a shared delirium that can sometimes, just sometimes, create magic. I really hope that this was one of those times.

Lots of xo
