Should You Go Through a Colonoscopy When You Have Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

Yes, it might hurt like hell… but it may be worth it on the long run.

“Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common disorder that affects the large intestine. Signs and symptoms include cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, and diarrhea or constipation, or both. IBS is a chronic condition that you’ll need to manage long term.”

During the first part of the year 2019, I was quite sick. It felt like every single part of my body was inflamed. I thought I had grown used to the pain by now since I had been suffering from some forms of chronic pain or another for at least 15 years — Irritable bowel syndrome is only one form of many. But the pain in my gut went from bad to worst within a couple of weeks. Every night, after eating, I would find myself feeling nauseous, having painful cramps, and, more often than not, having a bad case of diarrhea…

As a result, my family doctor asked for a consultation from a gastroenterologist in order to know what could be worsening my IBS symptoms all of a sudden.
