All families are dysfunctional in their own ways, including “work families.” In fact, I’ve worked in some work families that were significantly more dysfunctional than my own, something I’d never before thought possible.

The difference is that I had to stay with my original family up until a certain age, though God knows I explored and fantasized myriad ways to escape. A dysfunctional job, on the other hand, can be left in the dust.
