The Most Courageous Act is Being Yourself

Each and everyday we’re fed messages by the media about how we should look like and be like, we’re made to feel like who we are isn’t enough. Both women and men, are told that they have to be a certain way to fit the ideals of society. To that I say, don’t be afraid to break the rules and be yourself because that is one of the most courageous things that anyone can do.

Many people are often scared to be who they are because they fear judgement. They believe that others will ridicule them, or perhaps even isolate them from being a little different than the norm. If that is one of your concerns or fears, ask yourself “do I really want to be around people that don’t accept me for who I am anyway?”

People who truly love and care for you are going to accept you in your entirety. They’re not going to care about your quirks or eccentricities as they will acknowledge them as being a part of who you are. Those are the people you need to keep in your circle; people that aren’t trying to change you into something else, but rather who let you be yourself.

We’re not robots or clones. We weren’t designed to fit a standard mold and be a copy of someone else. I can recall a great quote that was said by John Mason, “You were born an original, don’t die a copy.” Your uniqueness and individuality, may be precisely what this world is in desperate need of. Don’t be afraid to let your light shine on what makes you different, embrace it.
