One of the best things in the world is the pleasure of eating well and the other is exactly the theme that we want to combine today with our concept of good food: travelling.

Travelling allows us to get to know different people and places, other forms of social organization, behaviors and habits different from ours, makes it possible to keep in touch all the time, if you like, with the current language and, of course, to try new scents and flavors that can mark and even to change our taste forever.

In other words, travelling gets you immersed in another culture, incorporates labeling rules from each location, expands your circle of relationships, even if for a period of time and, as the writer DeRose says, “to rip our blinkers up” that prevented you from seeing Beyond your yard.

Let’s talk a little more about the food. What does it have to do with all this?
Food will represent how people organize themselves, the historical and environmental facts that shaped the way they produce their food and what they are, the cultural foundations that influenced the way they prepare their meals and even the social class to which they belong.
Did you realize how much you can extract from information and concepts of a culture, simply by living with the locals, enjoying and get to know their food?

The world is very vast, and by “pulling out the roots” that somehow bind us to where we are, we expand our consciousness through cultural diversity. That is why the most elegant of these occasions is to get rid of prejudices and to make the most of every moment and every discovery.
Here are some tips that can make all the difference in your meals when travelling:

  • Do a research in advance and note when you get to the place about the culture and eating habits of the place you are visiting.
  • Travel with the predisposition to know different places, new people and taste the local cuisine.
  • It is worth remembering: in most countries, drinking tap water can cause you serious problems. This is the biggest threat to their health in the poorest countries. To avoid disruption during or after your trip, drink only mineral water. Not having a “reliable” water option, take soda. Prefer hot teas in which water has been boiled and use the same criteria for coffee. Do not drink juices, which usually carry water, or have drinks with seemingly harmless ice cubes, also made with tap water.
  • Get in the mood of the place you are visiting. In some European countries, for example, it is customary to have quick meals in the middle of the day, on the street or enjoying the landscape in the parks. On the busy Big Apple many New Yorkers skip breakfast to give preference to brunch between 11am and 3pm.
  • According to the travel proposal, reserve some bucks to get to know from cafes to more upscale restaurants. In every city in the world you can find a little more sophistication and refinement.
Enjoy the places a lot and, especially, make new friends. This is our most precious treasure.

A big hug,
