3 weeks and 2100+ pushups later… (course correction)

Last week, I was watching a YouTube video where a guy attempted the Murph workout. That’s where I heard this line:

Pain is weakness leaving your body

Intriguing! 🤔

I encountered a severe pain in my knees after doing squats on the first two days of the week. The SQUATS!!! It’s them again.

Yeah, so my form wasn’t correct. I was bending my knees a lot forward, putting more pressure on them, which resulted in pain. I couldn’t even walk properly for a few hours after the workout.

It took watching a couple more squat videos on youtube to figure out how to do a proper “standard” squat — it turns out there are many variations.

The pain diminished but didn’t vanish. I guess my knees need more work than I initially thought. For now, I’ve kept the squats to only 3 sets of 10 from the start of a session.

Moving on from squats (…such a relief) 😪

For the pushups, I’ve removed the hard limit of 10/set. Now, I do as many as possible in each set. Here’s how the numbers look: 15, 12, 13, 10, 10 divided between 1 set of standard pushup followed by 1 set of decline pushup.

On the last 3 days (including today), I worked out only in the evenings. On these days, the remaining 5 sets were of 10 pushups each with a break of 2–3 mins in-between. I can feel my body slowly adapting to more intense workouts. 😎

Now, let’s address the elephant in the room. I set myself a goal to improve my sleep cycle at the start of the last week. But this is something that hasn’t improved AT ALL. Some of that can be attributed to the frequent power cuts in Koramangala, especially during 3–5 am at night; also my time for deep sleep. To anyone reading this who is not from India, we’re in the middle of the summer season here. So a power cut means you’re sweating in under 2 mins and don’t forget the annoying mosquitoes. Anyway, I’m glad that didn’t deter me from doing the sets on the following day.

I was secretly recorded while doing a round of jumping jacks :D

In conclusion, I’d like to finish this challenge at 150 pushups/day. The bar is set, aannnd it’s high. We’ll see how many I can manage. The next update will be shared when/if I complete the 30-day challenge. 😉
