Activism Do’s and Don’t?
I got into activism recently compared to many others, but it was before Bernie Sanders, it was the TPP that got me involved. The TPP was getting no news so I started handing out flyers about it person to person, email . phone calls, helping unions not even in my area, audience or meeting with my Representative, researching, then meeting other activist in person & social media.
One of the only means we really have for good change for we the people is “the vote” & election integrity. Some say the vote is broken down to the decided & undecided voter. But of course it is much more nuanced than that. There is many multiple forms of the decided, undecided & the other undecided, there is also multiple forms of the apathetic.
The ultimate goal is to get somebody to vote the way you want on a particular issue or candidate. If you can inspire others to become activist all the better. Time and energy is limited so spending it efficiently yet in a way so you & hopefully others will want to keep doing it.
More on activism here
Here some examples of using time;
Spending too much time on somebody who is a troll is probably allowing them to accomplish their goal by wasting time with them instead of spending it on better activism. Encouraging the ones you agree with is important and great to a point because spending too much time with them can be a inefficient waste of time too if they already are going to vote your way.
Helping candidates that do not have much chance of winning is not futile because your getting the message you are for out there… so probably better success next time.
The media fails us. In order to have the possibility to get information and change new voters minds outside your bubble you got to get outside your bubble, go to other bubbles large & small. To describe Ralph Nader from a video promoting his new book at the time “Unstoppable: The Emerging Left-Right Alliance to Dismantle the Corporate State” Ralph was gushing at the thought of the tea party and the left getting publicity on the corporate news for both the left & right protesting on the same issue.
Now today’s date is 7–20–17. From one of Caitlin Johnstone latest brainstorm articles from a little while back-
I’ve been seeing some against any coalitions on issues with the alt right, cool, no ones forcing you to, it’s just an article. I didn’t even know what alt right is until recently & kinda still don’t. So Mike Cernovich is one their leaders or spokesman. Well back when we went person to person for Bernie or before on the TPP issue, i can tell they are lot of people out there probable worse than Mike Cernovich that we were trying to get to vote for Bernie Sanders or call their representative to be against the TPP. Bernie had appeal to the right & left, a lot of Trump supporters were not bad people like many on the Hillary left said they are. A candidate would be lying to you if they said they’d refuse those votes from a particular people because they don’t like their ideology especially knowing that doing so would cause them to lose.
i have defended the ANTIFA with out even knowing much about them because those attacks on them were illogical and ridiculous. Now i’m seeing a bit in the other direction too……
Some of the attacks to Caitlin & those on the left that agreed with her came from several factions of the so called “progressive left”. It was ridiculous, some of the progressive left that saw her points were in effect being called racist if they agree with Caitlin. Many others got the H out of there from the divisiveness.
The faction that was doing the majority of the attacks were some from the Progressive Army lot. There is lot of good people & groups to emerge from a Bernie Sanders start. The Progressive Army are some of the many to emerge from the Bernie Sanders 2016 Presidential run like Sane Progressive, Tim Black, HA Goodman, Real progressives, LTMB, Zach Haller & lot more. I was observing the Progressive Army”s live chat from one of their early YouTube streams when Bernie was still in the primaries and some of them were answering chat questions & there reply was not to watch the Sane Progressive & others but to mainly watch them. OK maybe that’s one of their ways to build a bigger audience? Latter when Ben Dixon got in some way affiliated with David Pakman a Hillary supporter & Democratic Party sheep herder, he changed. I’ve watched Anoa outright distort the Green Party as racist with manipulative word framing . I mean what the what, the Green Party had a black VP & are for reparations. If some of them don’t like HA Goodman or Sane progressive, cool but they are very few like them especially the ones talking about the military Industrial complex. If people think HA Goodman is to repetitive, whatever… he’s good at filling a needed niche.
Others attacked Caitlin saying she’s all about self promotion, I looked up the bio of the accuser & i thought this accuser being a writer should relate to having more people see ones writing. Some people attacked her like they knew what Cailtin was thinking better than Caitlin knows her own thoughts, i mean she outright denied the accusation & clarified her intentions. Now this is what really is something , Caitlin has not really even done anything yet with the “alt” and all these preconceived attacks & badgering come bombarding in. Frankly i think if she can get in and talk to their leaders she may reach some of their followers and maybe some good change can come from it.
From this Caitlin ordeal i seen something i don’t understand with bethlynch2020 of the Progressive Army twitter activism who is part of the Progressive Army, she troll’s progressives & their followers who don’t agree with her, tries to provoke them to anger, gets blocked, then stalks & then post twitter screen shots taken out of context… i mean besides stalking and creepy what is the end game?
i have a proposal to Caitlin & BethLynch2020, it’s to do a debate on YouTube. Just two white women hashing it out on YouTube. Maybe some talk for thought, maybe naught.
Some complain about Caitlin being from Australia but note Beth Lynch joined twitter February 2017, i wonder if Beth is one of those multiple account types with a mission?
i’ve found it prudent not to use labels when it comes to people and activism. When you approach somebody with your party affiliation or near a single word description identity, many will have preconceived summation of you that might deter your goal. Besides those political word identities are always being hijack and there is not unity on the definition.
i am not woke, woke kinda implies i know it all when i have so much to learn.
i don’t like to capitalize “i “because it’s kinda egocentric & it’s faster not to.
