It’s a holiday miracle: the 2019 Best of the Best Broadcast will be four hours total, expanded from two.

Our annual Best of the Best Broadcast (BOTB) is now a total of 4 hours. Why?! So that we can play more “Oscars of Radio” award-winning stories IN FULL.

Hear stories by all of these 2019 Third Coast/RHDF Competition award-winners on Best of the Best!

The 2019 Third Coast/RHDF Competition award-winners deserve a four-hour broadcast.

In the past, we’ve packed all 11 Third Coast/RHDF winners into just one 2-hour broadcast. But now, we’re expanding the broadcast into a total of four hours! With four hours of Best of the Best, you can hear nearly all of the most groundbreaking, cutting-edge podcasts and radio shows of the year in their entirety.

Instead of excerpts, we’re playing as many award-winning stories in full as possible! Yep, that means…

  • Mardi Gras Is A State Of Mind, winner of the Best New Artist award, produced by Mara Lazer? Played in full!
  • Punks, from the podcast Nancy, winner of the Skylarking award for stories intended to delight the listener? Played in full!
  • The Return, winner of the Best Documentary: Gold award, from Latino USA? Played in full, plus an interview with producer and audio poet Sayre Quevedo.
  • This Is Not A Drill, winner of the Best Documentary: Bronze award, from producer Jazmin Aguilera & a talented team from Snap Judgment? Played in full.
  • Change Intolerance, an episode of the groundbreaking podcast Crackdown, winner of Radio Impact award? Including an interview with host Garth Mullins and producer Sam Fenn!
  • ROW-cub, winner of the Best Documentary: Honorable Mention award. Played in full, with an interview with producer Neena Pathak.
  • Death in Illinois Prisons: He Didn’t Have The Death Penalty But That’s What He Got, from Shannon Heffernan at WBEZ, the winner of this year’s Best News Feature award. Played in full!
