9 ways to stay creative

Starting at a blank screen/canvas might be a harrowing experience especially when nothing is coming to mind no matter how hard you try.

HOW IS THIS SO?

We come up with new ideas all the time but when it comes down to actually sitting down and flushing those thoughts out, we draw a blank and feel uncreative.

Being creative is like a muscle, you need to do it often in order for it to come to you naturally. There are times where we need that extra push in order to get our creative juices flowing. Lucky for you, we’ve put together a list of things to help you whenever you are stuck in creative slump.

1. GO FOR A WALK AND/OR EXERCISE.

Sometimes, we need to get moving to stimulate our mind. Going for a walk even if it’s around the block can inspire you by getting your blood flow going.

2. CARRY A NOTEBOOK.

You need a place to write down your thoughts and ideas whenever inspiration strikes so you can return to them later. It’s also a great idea to write down your favorite quotes and start outlining a new project.

3. START WRITING/SKETCHING.

If you are having writer’s block, start writing out your thoughts or sketch random things. You’d be surprise to see where it can lead you because all you need to do is to just start doing something.

4. COLLABORATE WITH OTHERS.

Asking others especially like minded creatives for opinions is great. We have a great office layout where we can bounce ideas off of each other and get advice on what we are working on.

5. BREAK FROM YOUR ROUTINE.

When we fall into a certain pattern, our minds start to get dull because it is in autopilot. Doing the same things everyday can be detrimental to our creativity. Doing something you haven’t done before like learning a new activity can help stimulate your brain.

6. GIVE YOURSELF A DEADLINE.

Starting something without a schedule end date will probably lead to procrastination. Having a fixed date will make you work harder in order to finish in time.

7. GET RID OF ALL DISTRACTIONS.

Whenever you have something important to do, your mind begins to wander. Eliminate whatever distracts you like putting your phone on silent and turning wifi off on your computer. Without these nuisances, you have no choice but to focus on the task at hand.

8. DON’T BE HARD ON YOURSELF.

Trying to be perfect and too critical about yourself can be counter-productive. It’s good to cut yourself some slack and just work with what you’ve got.

9. FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED.

It is very important to complete your project because if you don’t you’re more prone to do it against next time. It will also help you to push through and possibly come up with new ways/ideas to complete your task.
