Be warned: You aren’t going to LIKE hearing most of this.

The biggest event in thousands, maybe millions of years, and we call it simply “climate change’. There’s the first problem.

Names and lablels are important.

So first of all, we have existing associations with the words “Climate Change”, (climates change all the time. It’s sort of … what they do regionally) so let’s also not call it that, or even “Global Warming”. Yes, I know, the earth’s temperatures are warming, but A: not uniformly, and B: “warm” doesn’t adequately convey the situation at all. Some places are getting hotter, wetter, windier, colder, or dryer. Others are unchanging, or even seeing huge disproportionate swings in temperature and wind patterns beyond imagination or expectation.

Let’s call it what it Really IS, and Why YOU should be concerned:

Human caused ENVIRONMENTAL DESTABILIZATION rapidly leading to …..(human supporting) ECOSYSTEM COLLAPSE.

I’m using capitals because what scientists are reporting is really is THAT SERIOUS.

Our civilization, (like others before it) is coming to an end.

This should be the ONLY topic talked about until it is resolved, (if we even can).

We’ve known for far too long…

It’s now a very obvious and serious concern.

So why did this happen?

It happened because of our rapid (geologically speaking), prolonged increase in Co2 conversion from trapped underground liquid (oil) and rock(coal) to Atmospheric Gas, after we extracted some energy from it to power our gadgets and stuff.

Volcanoes emit these types of gasses too, (sporadically and on a smaller scale) therefore the earth has a system to absorb these gases. Generally, an equilibrium is maintained, but from what we can see and measure now… We went and broke that system, and that’s only part of the problem with our situation.

When you combine rising temperatures WITH a massive global species extinction event called the HOLOCENE we’re now in the Anthropocene) it shouldn’t be much surprise that human actions have placed our own humanity in peril by putting at risk the very system that supports us. (WE killed and ate just about everything on earth, burned down forests for cattle farming and scraped the worlds’ ocean, in a massive over-fishing campaign.) A constant barrage of Nuclear bombing probably doesn’t help much either.

The Earths’ buffer of adaptability (life) has become less complex and this has an effect of decreasing resilience to change.

Think of a big aquarium with a large variety of species, versus one with a monoculture (one species). Which system do you think is more resilient to change?

7.7 billion hungry people using resources and causing a huge decrease in species variety as we expand our territory, combined with quickly rising Co2 and other greenhouse gas emissions like methane (I also wouldn’t rule out effects from all of those Nuclear test blasts) and you can see why….

Our planet’s cozy homeostatic environmental equilibrium is starting to destabilize and conditions are starting to swing more wildly.

Note: ( I wrote a book that further explains this phenomena in detail )

Its effects are profound and already being felt around the world.

Now, what must we DO about it to have even the tiniest chance at human survival.

EVERY government must address this most serious environmental situation in a responsible, effective, measurable, balanced, collaborative and IMMEDIATE way.

Working with Biologists, Resource managers, Distributors, Manufacturers, Commercial businesses as well as EVERY OTHER CITIZEN of every country.

We essentially have to completely restructure our civilization (while not destabilizing the ecosystem even more in the process).

If Canada wants to meet Paris 2030 emissions targets, we have to reduce our output to 30 per cent below the levels reached in 2005!

but For earth to continue supporting human life, we need to not only meet Paris 2030 but go way way beyond. With a new , solid Plan of ACTION and rapid adaptability.

“The only alternative to risk management is crisis management, and crisis management is more difficult, costly, time consuming and embarrassing.” -James Lam

If you don’t schedule planetary maintenance, the planet will schedule it for you.

Canada needs a very serious climate change plan.

This is a National issue that should not be divided up provincially, we are long-past wasting large quantities of time and money focused exclusively on ‘educating people about climate change’, ‘assessments’ ‘monitoring’ and generating revenue from the process. Those are still important, sure, but now it’s time to scale UP from minor initiatives to REAL EFFECTIVE ACTION.

So here is my suggested list of actions to be taken IMMEDIATELY in Production, Sales, Manufacturing, Distribution, Funding and Legislation:

#1 New NATIONAL campaign: Gardens not lawns.

Where there’s grass, there could be food. Creation of a national front-yard, easement and city land (greenspace) garden development program. Everyone should be growing fruits and vegetables (and probably hemp too) EVERYWHERE we can. Food scarcity is going to be a problem. We need to prepare. (this will increase water issues, but we’ll get to that later)

It’s time to start retrofitting old buildings with efficient systems, not just regulating new construction. Large factories should be incentivized (or forced) to convert rooftop space to either greenhouse gardens, solar panels , solar water heating (or forests of hemp).

No more wasted space (if it’s not green, in use, or making energy, it’s wasting space).

#2 A New RULE . Attention Everyone, a new rule:

For locally made, distributed, or imported products:

“If it can’t be manufactured locally, reduced, reused, refilled, repaired, rebuilt, refurbished, refinished, resold, recycled, repurposed, upcycled or composted, then it should be completely redesigned or restricted from import, removed from production, and simply just made illegal.”

  • Pete Seeger (with a little tweaking)

NO MORE SHIPPING PRODUCTS ALL OVER THE PLACE

#3 Think global but act LOCAL by Identifying, Supporting and Creating LOCAL:

We need rapid introduction and enforcement of a new type of product labeling:

“Distance traveled in KMs

Every item and service should have tracking information collected and labeled on invoice or package. Right beside the price. ALL item and service shipping distances. This enables citizen awareness, and action: you can have an impact by purchasing the products that aren’t shipped the furthest, like with your produce for example. Promote local products, based on DISTANCE traveled. Enabling the creation of strategies to incentivize elimination of “long-distance traveling products” and their impact on Carbon emissions.

Require Grocery stores to carry a larger percentage of dehydrated products (soap, juice, food) Stop shipping water. Require stores to carry more BULK ITEMS, refillable product containers.

Finished your box of cereal? Bring the box to the grocery store to refill it. Stop filling the recycling box with the same packaging every two weeks. Look at your garbage, how can you reduce it. Talk to your grocer today. Bring your containers to have them Refilled.

Support all businesses Reusing, Upcycling, Refurbishing, Rebuilding or Repairing. Don’t give up on broken things, Fix them. Give them to someone learning to repair. Keep products in circulation as long as possible. it should be re-duce, re-use x100 times, repair then re-cycle only if you have no other choice. Support community repair learning workshops.

but mostly….. STOP BUYING STUFF!

#4 Develop a sharing economy:

Do not define Canadians as Consumers, we are Citizens, we can learn to share.

Develop a suite of apps for: Neighborhood equipment sharing.(wood working /mechanical tools, camping equip, RVs) For ride sharing, job sharing, employee sharing, item sharing, small job help swapping, service swapping For a good example look at Simbi.

Rare use items, and single use items (like single use plastic) should be outlawed and banned. If you can’t reuse it , refuse it.

#5 Increase resource distribution EFFICIENCY:

Swarms of people travel from the suburbs to the city at the same times in separate vehicles? We export wood but import furniture? We export Oil but import Fuel? We ship wood both to and from Vancouver island?

Products are going back and forth and sometimes in circles around the world.

Unnecessary shipping and distribution efficiencies could be solved with NATIONAL resource logistics management and an increase in support for local businesses to develop product refinement and manufacturing “IN-Country”. We have a dependency problem, but we are making it worse. We need to address this immediately.

Power generation can be more localized with GeoThermal solutions.

#6 INCREASE in existing energy development funding:

“Specific to that Region” Low-impact power development.

West and East Coast Ocean WAVE power, GeoThermal, Wind and Solar. even Exercise Gym generators, anything. Promote residential rooftop solar.

More support for Innovators.

It’s happening, but it needs a 1000 fold increase.

#7 Use (and prepare for) New Technologies available to help:

Promoting and preparing for Electric #AI “Autonomy ready” Cars and #VirtualReality technologies. Autonomous cars alone could lead to up to 30% less road traffic in less than a decade. Virtual Reality enables more than gaming , telepresence offers up the ability to be anywhere, doing whatever you could possibly desire. Shopping, work, entertainment education and travel experiences without even leaving your house.

Build forest food walls in deserts.

This Africa Green wall project only cost 8 billion. There are 2,208 billionaires in the world. (and many large governments and corporations) If a dozen of them chipped in , there could be a half dozen criss-crossing Tree walls making a grid across the country. It would speed up the process of reforesting Africa, capturing co2, employing and feeding the poor and saving the planet.

#7.5 GO MINIMALIST, Simple or Hyper efficient.

Let people have Tiny homes, RV’s and efficient living options.

#8 Educating the public on the situation and solutions:

Educate the population on ecosystems, aquaponics, hydroponics, solar panel/battery bank installation, electronics repair, water purification, home insulation/energy efficiency options and #VR #AR technologies.

More personally, I’ve dedicated my life to developing an understanding of the underlying mechanisms of homeostatic robustness and closed loop biospheres. I’ve developed a graphical representation of the ecosystem that could potentially be a missing piece of the climate change puzzle. (improving predictive algorithms as well) Help me get the word out!

#9 Protect life.

#10 FUNDING for research in ecosystem re-stabilization and homeostatic equilibrium (including biopshere research) :

and I think I could come up with hundreds of other more easily applied # ACTIONS instead of ….

Ontario’s current plan and commitments

Environment Minister Rod Phillips is expected to announce the details on Ontario’s Climate change plan at a news conference on Dec 7th 2018 in Nobleton, Ont.

According to the province’s new climate change plan obtained by CTV News Toronto.

Ontario Canada’s Climate change Plan

  • Improving understanding on how climate change will impact the province of Ontario by running a provincial impact assessment to identify where and how climate change is likely impacting communities, critical infrastructure, economies and natural environment. The assessment would provide analysis regarding the matter to government, municipalities, businesses, Indigenous communities and Ontario residents to help build a guide for future decision making.
  • Modernize building codes to ensure homes and building are able to better withstand extreme weather events, including affordable adaptation measures that would significantly reduce the impacts of basement flooding.

Reducing emissions

  • Reduce emissions from heavy-duty vehicles, such as commercial transport trucks, by redesigning the emissions testing program and strengthen on-road enforcement of emissions standards. (increased fines for violation)

Wastewater

  • Protecting the Great Lakes through monitoring of sewage overflows from municipal wastewater systems in the province while working with municipalities to ensure residents are aware of overflow incidents.

Waste

  • Focus on litter and waste initiatives, including implementing a “day of action” dedicated to cleaning up litter in Ontario’s communities.

Landscape

  • Increase access to parks and greenspaces throughout the province of Ontario by 10 per cent or approximately one million more visitors while protecting the natural environment.

IMHO We’re in trouble.

I think for us to have a future, we have to take things much more seriously.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRLJscAlk1M

… We are actually headed the wrong direction.

Straight towards a Worst Case Scenario of not just societal collapse, but (life suppoerting) ecosystem collapse. !

Reports predict an increase in the cost of produce and a decrease in the cost of meat!

it may already be too late.

Some people are thinking, we’ll just have to go to mars.

We COULD, but we couldn’t sustain a colony there without understanding sealed ecosystems, as mentioned in #9

We have less than a 5% chance of species survival through the next 20–60 years. I think we should be taking things much more seriously.
