UK Staycations are Booming…
Here’s Why They Rule

Staycations, they’re all the rage! With lodging, glamping, podding and more, there’s a growing trend for families in the UK to holiday, and that’s by staying put. Camping, caravan, and lodge holidays are nothing new (heck, some of my favourite memories as a kid were caravanning with the family), but there’s certainly been an increase in their popularity over recent years. People are ditching the two weeks abroad, for several shorter breaks in the UK. Okay, so the big question here is WHY choose to stay in the UK, instead of travelling abroad for your break? Let me share the enticing aspects of a holiday closer to home.

Spa Breaks
Relaxation at its best. Stay in luxurious surroundings and also enjoy some ‘me time’ with a nice long pamper. Have those shoulder knots loosened, and preen yourself until there’s no tomorrow. You deserve it. Whether steaming yourself in the sauna is your thing, or simply rejuvenating your skin with a facial, a spa appeals to most of us needing a break. I tend to look on for spa day deals, but do highly recommend looking at holiday parks with on-site spas for the full experience.

Local Food and Drink
From fish and chips on the prom in Blackpool, to a good old fashioned quaint afternoon tea, classic British food and drink is where it’s at! In our household a good strong cup of tea is the answer to everything, so having a few cups along with indulging in finger sandwiches and delicious cakes must make everything better. Plan on making your afternoon tea extra special? Choose somewhere with a stunning view. I recently went to The Hilton’s Cloud 23 and the scenery from the window was absolutely phenomenal. Sandwiches and cakes were pretty darn yummy too!

Luxury Accommodation
Staying in the UK? Well make sure you do it in style with accommodation that oozes class and finesse. Luxury come in all sizes, so regardless of who you’re travelling with you can have the perfect blissful experience. Check out Argyll in Scotland if you’re after breathtaking views from your accommodation. Planning a romantic getaway? Give an AyePod a go, heading down with a group of mates? If getting your adrenaline pumping is a requirement for your getaways, you’ll be spoilt for choice with all the activities on offer in the UK. Maybe a spot of rock climbing in the Peak District is on your to do list? Or perhaps cycling through the picturesque areas of Pembrokeshire excite you? How about kayaking on a Loch in bonnie Scotland? From Snowboarding to horse riding on the beaches of Wales, you can get involved, without having to travel very far at all.

Children’s Entertainment
I have fond memories of holidays with my family as a child. They weren’t extravagant, nor were they outside of the UK. I don’t think you need to travel far and spend plenty of moolah on a family trip to ensure the kids have a good one. As long as there’s fun stuff to do, and time with your loved ones — that’s what kids remember most. Lots of holiday parks offer children’s entertainment to take the pressure of you slightly though… From brand mascots to enthusiastic members of staff, the trip will be a memorable one for years to come. What about checking out the adult’s entertainment offered too?

Buckingham Palace, Shakespeare’s birthplace, Stonehenge, Edinburgh Castle or even an extremely cool Roman Tour in Chester. The United Kingdom is known worldwide for its historic treasures, and staycations are the perfect time to explore them!

We can’t really mention the arts and not talk about the Edinburgh Festival Fringe now can we?! It’s the largest arts festival in the world after all. Last month the festival showcased comedy acts such as Jo Brand and Adam Hills, and plenty of new talent too. The arts festival also featured music, theatre shows and more. The UK also has some of (in my opinion) the greatest music venues ever! From the beautiful Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, to the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool, and the big names such as Wembley down in London, the list is endless! Check out the PRS Music Top 100 Music Venues List for more suggestions.

So there you have it, THAT’S why I think staycations are well worth taking a chance on! There will be a billion and one things I haven’t mentioned in this article, why not share with me your highlights for a UK staycation?

Until Next Time,
