I would say that technology and business are second to science as the “most resilient, iterative, and productive mechanism for creating change in the world”.
Better education and easier access to effective science* would likely have very beneficial effect on the human mean condition.
Technology and associated business are just beasts feeding on science. What Wired would be without the transistor effect ?
