Trust on the Internet
Do you ever feel worried when buying from an online retailer?
Yesterday I got a great laptop for a ridiculously low price.
How?
The guy I bought it off gets Macs on a lease from the US, buys them from wholesalers and orders in bulk.
All of these factors combined mean the price is going to be significantly lower than your average bricks and mortar computer store.
Yet the whole process reminded me of the dangers of online transactions.
eCommerce is all about trust.
I trust Amazon for a number of reasons:
#1: They have great brand awareness
#2: Their website is well made
#3: There service is fast. Very fast.
The challenge for smaller retailers is to gain that trust themselves.
For me the answer to that problem is to provide a great product and fantastic customer service.
Yesterday I received a fantastic laptop from a man who promptly and carefully answered all my questions from the get go.
This seems like a decent formula for anyone selling goods online:
Great product+ great customer service= Great retailer
