You Miss 100% of the Shots You Don’t Take

Yesterday I did a bucket collection on Grafton Street.

It was for the 100 minds project- 1000 students from across the country have the opportunity to each raise €1,000 for Childline.

So far from a variety of events: street and church collections to a charity football tournament I have raised about a grand.

Yesterday I went back to Dublin city centre to do one last bucket collection before the deadline closes.

A few Sundays ago I went out with two other friends and we raised €650 from 8 hours work- not too shabby if you ask me.

Yesterday I raised €180 my myself.

The question is what caused such a big change in how much we raised?

There are a variety of variables that affect donations:

  • The volume of people walking by (more doesn’t necessarily mean better)
  • How busy everyone is
  • The time of year: is it a holiday period or is it just a normal weekend?

On the Sunday in March most people were chilled out, and the majority of our funds came from 11am-1pm. Most performers we’re off the streets at that time, thus explains how we racked up so much money at the start.

But as Wayne Gretzsky said: ‘You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take’.

You can’t collect ANY money if you’re not standing there with your bucket.

Gary Vaynerchuk always says one is greater than zero. 180 is definitely greater than zero as well.
