Great post. I know it’s comparatively small to the other acquisitions, but I’ll always think about how Yahoo! acquired Associated Content and then shut it down a few years later. Panda just murdered the value of a site like that — an interesting thought now that I see Y! could have purchased Google all those years ago.
This also suggests a lack of focus. Instead of seeming dynamic (trying stuff, shutting it off like Google does), it looked more like they were fumbling around for different highlights in all things digital rather than sticking to a goal. Google’s about helping people find what they want. Y! feels like the same thing I used back in 1999.
