I don't think Hancock is forgotten cus it wasn't connected to an existing IP. I think it's forgotten because most of the movie was different & interesting, then the twist came, & every person I know, absolutely hated that twist. It was equal parts predictable yet somehow contrived & stupid. It turned the whole thing into a cliche with a forgettable (poorly-done-cgi-filled) finish.
One of my closest friends despises that movie literally entirely because of the last act. I think he's overreacting, mind you, but I think it illustrates my point. Up until this article, I've never heard anyone with anything good to say about the twist. I like Charlize Theron, I think she's incredibly talented (& quite badass), but that was a total misfire on the part of the writers.
