It was a fine evening and i was sitting in the porch of my house after returning from office. A cup of hot coffee in one hand and handset in other, having spent half an hour with my friend on call both of us finally decided that our next vacation would be to Kolmanskop ghost town at Nambia in Africa as we had heard a lot about the creepy place. Disconnecting the call, I immediately booked the air tickets to Africa to avail discounts if any.

Our trip was planned for next weekend and we hit the ghost town early in the morning that weekend to make the maximum of the trip. Right outside the coastal city of Luderitz in Nambia, lies this old German mining town of Kolmanskop which was long deserted by life and it was quite explicit in the view of the place. As far as the eyes went there was no evidence of life. All looked so barren and forsaken. Whole of the town was engulfed by the Namib Desert. The huge edifices and houses depicting German architecture lied empty and desolate, spreading depressing vibes in the atmosphere which could be felt from far. We clicked many pictures with a hope to trace something peculiar in the backdrop of the images, which could be enough to boast about our audacious endeavour.

We had done enough study about the place before arriving and it did match with what we were told by the local inhabitants about the reason of the devastating condition of this town. As per the recorded facts, Kolmanskop was founded in early 1900’s when diamonds were found in the desert of Namib. Huge number of German families flocked the place during that time to make a good fortune but slowly and gradually abandoned the place once the diamonds started becoming extinct.

Now, the differently coloured walls of the German architecture which were battered by sandstorms since decades look gloomy and creepy. We, ourselves felt some negative aura to have enveloped the place as we walked through the sandy upheavals of land. No wonder, this uncanny place is becoming the favourite destination of ghost hunters and for picturization of horror movies. We came back with a different experience altogether, which was not only thrilling and exciting but also a topic of hot discussion for days amid our friends. We, too hope to visit the ghost town again sometime, before it collapses and dissolves in sand.
