July 9th Clemson Historic Picture Of The Day

Red Carpet Lounge Part II

(Photo Uploaded By Alan Cutts)

Today’s photo is Part II from yesterday’s pictures of the Red Carpet Lounge in Clemson from the 1970’s. Below is a link to Part I: http://tigerpregameshow.blogspot.com/2013/01/january-8th-clemson-historic-picture-of.html The above photo shows a wide shot of the Red Carpet Lounge when a Pizza Hut was located beside it. The Red Carpet met its demise after an incident on September 22, 1977 when a 19-year-old Central teenager shot a Seneca resident in the left thigh (no students were involved) in the back of the lounge. The establishment’s reputation was badly blemished and it never recovered its former popularity, closing that winter. Tiger Town Tavern opened in the old Red Carpet location in the fall of 1978.
