Today’s photos are from the 1983 First Friday Parade. Clemson First Friday Parade has been in existence since 1974 and is held the Friday afternoon before the first home football game to celebrate the new football season. Student floats move through campus down S.C. 93 and end at the Outdoor Theater for a pep rally. Here is a picture of the Kudzo Kids, a tradition unlike any other!

Floats from various fraternities and sororities and other campus organizations are represented in the parade that rolls down main street in Clemson. The parade culminates at the Amphitheater in the middle of campus where the first Pep Rally of the year takes place. The hair in the early 1980’s is certainly recognizable!

The Grand Marshall of the Parade is featured at the Pep Rally. Recent Grand Marshall’s have ranged from current PGA professional Dillard Pruitt, to College Football Hall of Fame legends Jess Neely and Frank Howard, to noted television announcers Brent Musburger and Ara Parseghian. Here is the Tiger at the parade doing some antics. Notice he is sporting the famous Birdwell Beach Britches bathing suit.
