I don’t know where folk like yourself get the notion that government can’t or shouldn’t protect people. Government already protects people: via the military, consumer protections, the establishment of civic engineering standards, police (ideally), et cetera. Suggesting the government isn’t going to protect its citizens as a whole is not only downright peculiar, it is wrong. Would you really prefer a government which turned its back on the suffering of its citizenry or allowed any rogue state to claim US territory without retaliation?

You also appear to believe rudimentary firearm training is somehow so onerous nobody could possibly learn it, say, in an afternoon. Perhaps you should find out how long a home defense course might take before adopting that position.
