Absolutely! I may have been comfortable in DOS, but my siblings didn’t ever start hogging the computer until we had Windows 3.1. The GUI was crucial to get people out of the complicated guts of the system and focus more on the more abstract capabilities of computer hardware as an arbitrary platform for applications. Without a GUI, computers would never have become accessible enough for the internet to be revolutionary.
