What it means to have Bernie Sanders’ support

Sisters and Brothers —

Moments ago, Bernie Sanders announced his support for our insurgent campaign to retire Debbie Wasserman Schultz. He believes, like an overwhelming majority of grassroots Democrats and progressive activists, that she has failed to live up to the values we share as a party:

“Clearly, I favor her opponent. His views are much closer to mine than as to Wasserman Schultz’s.” — Bernie Sanders

Like Bernie, we are running a campaign that’s funded by working Americans, not big corporations or wealthy elites. I know that our coalition of nurses, teachers, students, seniors, and working Americans can come together to undo the damage Debbie Wasserman Schultz has done in Congress and at the Democratic National Committee.

So far, thousands and thousands of people have made contributions to our campaign to retire Debbie Wasserman Schultz — the average being just over $20 this week. Add yours and we’ll have the resources to send a powerful message to the Washington establishment.

I want to make something perfectly clear: this race is not about Bernie Sanders or the presidential primary. This election is about the future of the Democratic Party and this country. It’s a question of whether or not we stand behind our progressive values and fight to make sure working Americans have a fair shot in this economy. That’s why we have many supporters who support Hillary Clinton too — because our opponent’s failed leadership is a disappointment to all Democrats.

We have two choices in the coming weeks and months. We can either continue to fight for working Americans and to implement progressive ideas like universal healthcare, free college tuition at public universities, a ban on fracking, and repealing Citizens United. Or we can give in and allow the establishment to continue rigging our political and economic systems for their own gain.

I am bringing that message all across South Florida. Will you help me?

Your $20 contribution could be the difference in this election — make yours today and help us continue building a grassroots campaign that can defeat an entrenched and out-of-touch incumbent.

Thank you, Bernie Sanders — and thanks to all of you who have stood with me throughout this entire election. This truly is YOUR campaign.

In solidarity,

Tim Canova

P.S. Yesterday, Wasserman Schultz attacked our campaign because we raise the overwhelming majority of our funds through small-dollar, individual donations. I’m proud of the way we fund this campaign, and if she wants to hit us for unrigging our political system, than I welcome her attacks on our campaign. Give our establishment opponent someone to worry about by donating $20 or more to our campaign today.

Too often elected officials represent special interests — not the people. Let's take back our country and restore democracy.
