Who’s Mistaken? Wasserman Schultz or Department of Homeland Security?

In what seems to be a weekly occurrence, Debbie Wasserman Schultz is embroiled in yet another controversy stemming from her completely failed leadership of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). We continue to ask ourselves, when will it end? This time, she’s disputing the sworn statement of former Department of Homeland Security (DHS) chief Jeh Johnson that the DHS attempted to help the DNC secure its computer systems and servers from hacking, but that DWS declined the offer, instead relying on CrowdStrike, the DNC’s shadowy private contractor.

In her own words, Wasserman Schultz claims “He’s wrong in every respect. Let me just be very clear, at no point during my tenure at the DNC was I contacted by the FBI, DHS or any government agency, or alerted or made aware that they believe the Russians, an enemy state, was intruding on our network.” When pressed on how clear Johnson was in his testimony, Wasserman Schultz then proceeds to claim he was, “utterly misinformed.”

And this latest so soon after Wasserman Schultz was also caught on video threatening the Chief of the U.S. Capitol Police, Matthew R. Verderosa, for doing his job in gathering evidence on the apparent criminal activity of Imran Awan. Awan, who may have already fled to Pakistan with his family, is reportedly Wasserman Schultz’s long-time Information Technology (IT) employee and personal friend. He is suspected of stealing a wide range of computer equipment and data, massive cybersecurity breaches, accessing congressional computers without permission of members of Congress, and funneling sensitive congressional data offsite — all serious felonies, and for what criminal purpose or scheme, one can only imagine. But that’s for the Capitol Police to investigate.

I take no personal comfort in relaying this information to you. It’s clear whatever the outcome of these investigations about hacking and criminal wrongdoing, that Wasserman Schultz has become a serious liability for Democrats nationwide. We intend to defeat Wasserman Schultz next year and to campaign for progressive Democrats challenging incumbent Republican lawmakers in Congressional and state legislative districts in Florida and around the country — the kind of help that Wasserman Schultz is incapable of delivering because she’s covered herself in endless scandals and controversy.

My campaign will not accept any donations from corporate interests, political action committees (PACs) or SuperPACs. Just as we did in our last campaign, we are relying solely on small donor contributions from people like you. That’s why you can always count on me to be on the side of the people and against predatory corporate interests. Our average donation is presently $20.18, a great omen for the 2018 elections. Please donate whatever you can to help fund our fight here in South Florida. With your help, we will take back our government and our political system from predatory corporate interests.

Thank you for continuing to stand by your beliefs and principles. May our integrity and righteousness bring us strength and courage in the days ahead, and with your help we will win and take back the Democratic Party from predatory corporate interests.

Too often elected officials represent special interests — not the people. Let's take back our country and restore democracy.
