Creating an app has never been easier, but not every developer is a great artist or expert on graphical or audio design.

So here’s the problem you’ve created an amazing app that is working perfectly but from the outside it doesn’t look nearly as good as it should.

This leaves you with two options either you hire a graphical designer who will design assets especially for your app or you use assets that are published under the Creative Commons license cc0.

Anything published under this license is considered to be copyright free, meaning you can use it in any way you like. You can use cc0 sounds for your app or even publish and sell your app with assets that are published under this license.

But as it usually is when something is free, finding something that is free and also of high quality is not an easy task.

Which is why we at RUME ACADEMY want to share a few links to resources that feature amazing app assets for no cost at all.

Let’s begin by telling you where to get free game assets because games are usually apps that need a lot of assets to look great.

Graphical Assets:

The best resource for graphical assets is by far KENNEY.NL

Kenney.nl offers amazing gaming assets for free

Kenney offers hundreds of amazing professionally looking game assets completely free of charge. You can of course donate something, which in my opinion is absolutely worth it because all of their assets are incredible.

Whether you need 2D, 3D or just some textures you can find all of it on their website.

OpenGameArt.org

Another great source for game assets is OpenGameArt.org

OpenGameArt may not be as appealing as Kenney but they do have a lot of resources that you can use. The thing to keep in mind here is that you need to make sure that you’re using assets that were published under the right license. Even though there are a lot of assets which are cc0, some of them are listed under the Attribution License meaning that you have to attribute the creator when you use some of their work.

Gameart2d.com

Though most of the assets on the website are for sale, they do have an amazing freebie section where you can get a lot of amazing looking sprites and Game GUI. The rest of the assets is for sale but there are royalty free which is something you have to keep in mind when you buy assets, since you don’t want to have to pay royalty in case your game really goes through the roof.

Image Assets:

If you’re building a more sophisticated app and you’re looking for a great source of copyright free image assets, you should head over to

Pixabay

You can register for free and use more than 700000 professionally taken photos in your app or on your website without having to pay anything.

Audio Assets

Now that we have all the graphics we need it’s time look at the audio resources that we can use

Freesound.org

The easiest and fastest way to get free sounds for you application is the website freesound.org.

You have to create an account to download anything but it is completely free and they usually do not annoy you with emails or stuff you do not want. As soon as you have created your account you can download any sound on the website. There are different licenses but they are specified with each file so you know exactly if you can use this specific sound commercially and wether you should credit the creator or not.

However there really are tons of sound files you can use in any project without crediting which is awesome! Finding the right sound here can take some time since the files are often named poorly but you can find really great sounds for free here.

Audiojungle.net

Another alternative is audiojungle.net. This website is part of the Envato network just like Graphicriver for graphics. The sounds you will find here do cost money, but are usually pretty affordable starting at $1. You can expect high quality in return to make your sounds really stand out. The sounds are categorized so you can search conveniently in the right category to find exactly what you are looking for. You will need to create an Envato account, which is a good thing to have — not just for Audiojungle but all the other amazing websites of the network.

Now that you know where to get all the assets you need to make your app look and sound professionally, it’s time to learn how to build your app professionally as well.
