EDITION Nr1: Let’s get to know each other!
I decided to give newsletters another chance, changing the format and content to make them more casual, personal and collaborative. The very first edition just went to the few trusted friends who jumped on board before the journey began. Here is what they found in their inbox:
They say the first step is the hardest, so I will start by introducing myself properly. The current contact list has a mix of familiar faces (thanks for signing up, mom!) and some new names, so I hope everyone will find something interesting on this list.
Eight facts about me:
1. I like making lists and basically navigate the world by organising its various aspects into neat columns and ticking them off one by one. I still use pen and paper for a large part of it, but you can follow my reading list here and watchlist here.
2. I don’t like watching films (or, let’s say, I like to have watched a film, but the act of pressing “play” and sitting down for a two-hour experience of staring at a screen is very unpleasant). I never binge-watched a TV series either. In fact, several friends took upon themselves a challenge of finding some screen-based entertainment that will get me hooked, but no one claimed the prize yet.
3. I love running and am always on a lookout for scenic trails and half-marathons in unusual destinations. I usually listen to podcasts while running, the current favourite being the TED Radio Hour (after 150+ hours, I literally think of the presenter Guy Raz as my running buddy!).
4. Having worked in the media industry for half a decade, I pretty much stopped reading the news this year. Everything worth knowing generally finds me anyway, and I save a lot of time and nerve cells by focusing on literature instead of periodicals. One notable exception in The New Yorkers magazine, but I think of it as the later not the former anyway. Is there something I am missing out on?
5. I manage social media for BAMM visual market research agency, so if you are into visual thinking, design, photography, storytelling, research and more, you may want to follow.
6. I speak three and a half languages, the half comprising on bits and bobs of all the random tongues I picked up over time. Thanks to Duolingo, I was recently able to read Le Petit Prince in the original. I’m now using the app again, brushing up on hiragana and katakana before the upcoming trip to Japan this autumn.
7. According to Been app, I have visited to 54 countries. I will share some highlights from the recent trip across the Balkans in the next newsletter.
8. My favourite number is eight.
