The first Sunday of the month of August is generally celebrated as the Friendship Day and in our country it was popularized by Rahul-Anjali from the epic movie named Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. All the school and college going kids go gaga over this day and that’s the time everybody celebrates friendship day with gifts for best friends.

1. Friendship Day was originally endorsed by Joyce Hall who was the founder of the Hallmark cards in 1919.

2. The idea of a World Friendship Day was first proposed by Dr. Artemio Bracho on 20 July 1958 during a dinner with friends in Puerto Pinasco. It is a town on the River Paraguay about 200 miles north of Asuncion, Paraguay.

3. The General Assembly of the United Nation announced on 27 April 2011 that 30th July would be recognized as the official International Friendship Day.

4. Do you know that the friendship day has been celebrated in several southern South American countries for many years, particularly in Paraguay? Here the 30th July was first proposed as World Friendship Day in 1958.

‘D Del Amigo’ is the Spanish term of Friendship Day and it is a celebration of friendship, held annually on July 20, mainly in Argentina and Uruguay.
