The Air Conditioner of the Future
A Chinese consumer electronic and home appliances firm, Haier Group, has unveiled the world’s first 3D printed, fully functional air conditioner at the annual Appliance and Electronics World Expo held in Shanghai, China. The first and only available unit was purchased at the expo for $6,385.
The appeal of the unit lies in its potential for customization. According to Haier, “Each piece of the unit is produced on demand, seamlessly linking users’ requirements and actual manufacturing.” Future buyers will have complete control over the color, style, and structures of their 3D printed air conditioner. Haier goes on to say that “3D printing allows unprecedented user customization… each model is a unique piece.” Users will also be able to customize the LCD screen that displays the temperature and status of the air conditioning unit.
