I wonder how this will impact on their PBM and pharmacy business. If pharmacies, insurers and PBMs integrate as in this case isn’t the downside channel conflict? That is, will other insurers not avoid using Caremark for PBM services and CVS for in network pharmacy services? Or are we entering into an era where each insurer will have its own pharmacy chain and PBM? If the latter, CVS is the leader. If not, their strategy may fail.
