Another great article on a much needed topic. I agree with your analogy and the premise that it means UBI is justified but you stop short of getting to the bigger point.
If all work is being done through automation then by definition, no work need be done by humans. And then it follows that no jobs (work for pay) need be created.
In these premises, the goal of the new income source should not be too create a “basic” level of subsistence but rather to create a different story of income that pegs the minimum to what is easily provide-able to all through abundance. Then as automation further increased abundance to more levels of society, that peg would automatically increase the provision to the masses. In this way, the end goal of no money becomes an automatic feature as paid labor fades to a distant memory.
There is an easy peg that could begin now, if only we could discuss it in the public eye. That is, we could tax all money transfer at all levels by all accounts by even a small amount. That is, after all, the only full measure of full economic activity.
