In The Corner: Never Too Old To MOOC
MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) are free online courses open to everyone. Sites such as Udemy, Udacity, edX and many more, offer courses on a variety of topics. Learning at your own pace, in your own space and at your own time, are some of the many benefits of these courses.
Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number
People seeking a friendly, comfortable learning environment walk through the Corners doors daily. Two of such people, Zik Israel and Ada Sunday have become regular faces. Each day they sign on to the Chromebooks provided by the Corner and pick up where they left off.
Israel (51) an Economist, has taken several courses online using Udemy, Udacity and edX. He says, “I want to broaden my knowledge base, learning never ends. I have taken courses on Project Management, Managerial Economics and much more. Every time I come to the Corner I learn something new.”
Sunday (55) is an Entrepreneur, he manufactures soap, coconut oil and natural sea salt. According to him, “staying up to date on current and new information helps my business, the courses I have completed on Digital Marketing, Email Marketing and Sales Marketing have been very beneficial to me.”

Free Wi-fi? Say No More!
Although both haven’t been in a traditional brick and mortar school for over 20 years, MOOCs fuel their passion for life long learning. The free Wi-fi provided in the Corner for information, research and learning purposes makes taking online courses seamless. Coupled with free access to eLibraryUSA and over 160,000 online books, the Corner is a one-stop resource centre.
