Early development provides further insight into these processes as you can simply observe a new human “realizing” that arms and legs can be moved intentionally, that desire for an object can initiate the actions to grab it and bring it closer, etc. Everything is a surprise to a newborn and reality trains each brain so that environmental constants like gravity and faces are only surprising when in new relations to the self (e.g., balloons rise and previously unseen facial variations).
